Welcome

Tools for Self Reliance is a UK based charity working with partners across 5 countries in Africa. For over 40 years we have delivered quality refurbished tools, vocational training and business development projects to young people in need of a means of earning a sustainable livelihood. To date we have supported over 25,000 people through our projects who have gone on to find work or start their own small businesses.

Our trainees include young men and women who were unable to complete formal education, women affected by child marriage and early pregnancy, displaced communities and people living with or caring for loved ones with a disability.

Your Tools, Sewing Machines and Haberdashery

We have over 400 volunteers around the UK helping to collect, refurbish and pack tools. Your donated items will be lovingly refurbished and will support our vocational training programmes in one of two ways.

Appropriate tools, sewing machines and haberdashery items will be packed into toolkits and shipped to our partners, where they will be distributed to our trainees and equip them in setting up their own enterprises.

Surplus items, or those unsuitable for our trade projects, will be sold in the UK to raise the vital funds that support our work.

Our training programmes

We are currently working in Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zambia, delivering projects in Bricklaying, Carpentry, Motorbike Mechanics, Electrical and Solar Installation, Welding, Catering, Hairdressing, Cosmetology and Tailoring. Our Transition to Work projects support graduates beyond graduation from vocational training, providing additional business training, financial management skills and help with finding and applying for work.

Donate

We rely entirely on donations to ensure our work continues. Please consider making a one-off or recurring gift to support our projects and help change even more lives.
