The Birthday Gift Catalogue
If you’re looking for inspirational gifts for your family and friends for a special occasion this year why not give them something really different? Tools For Self Reliance has been providing practical help to practical people in Africa for the last 25 years, so why not help us to celebrate by choosing a gift from our birthday catalogue?
A sewing kit, woodworking tools or a skills training course provides practical aid that can transform people’s lives in the developing
world. Help to make a difference to the lives of artisans and their families and put a smile on the face of the person in whose name you make the gift.
To help us celebrate 25 years of supporting our partners in Africa, simply choose a gift or gifts from the selection below, payment is made via a secure PayPal shopping cart (if you do not have a PayPal account, you can still make your payment by credit/debit card).
Alternatively, you can print the Birthday Gift Catalogue leaflet. This includes an order form and instructions for making your order by post, telephone or email.

Happy giving!
- 1. Help us provide the finishing touch

For £10 you can help us to provide the hacksaw blades, files and other small but essential items needed to complete a vehicle maintenance or
metalwork kit. The recipients of kits like these are able to earn a living and support their families.
- 2. Allow us to spread the word

For £15 you can help us to
spread the word. Your gift
could, for example, pay for
translating training
materials and other
essential information into a
local language to enable
artisans to benefit from the
additional support we are
able to offer them.
- 3. A stitch in time?

A donation of £20 pays for two fully restored sewing
machines for a small workshop in Africa. One
such project supports AIDS widows in Tanzania
and gives the women hope for the future.
- 4. Help us carve a better future

Woodworking tools costing
£30 make a real difference
to the lives of trainee
carpenters in a country
such as Ghana or Tanzania,
where basic hand tools are
hard to come by. Putting
tools in people’s hands in
this way helps them carve
better futures.
- 5. Ship to shore

We send ten consignments
a year, which equates to
some 50,000 to 70,000
refurbished tools. £40 pays
for a toolkit to be shipped
to Africa, putting
refurbished tools, such as
construction kits, into the
hands of the people who
need them.
- 6. Keeping the wheels turning

We may be 25 years old
and going strong, but our
van is feeling its age! The
TFSR van is essential for
getting refurbished tools
from our groups around the
UK to our warehouse. A
donation of £50 will keep
us — and more importantly
our toolkits — on the move.
- 7. A one-off tool donation

There are some things we
just have to buy. A
donation of £125 pays for a
sought after one-off item
such as an anvil, which
enables us to support
village blacksmiths in
Uganda.
- 8. Artisan training courses

We don’t only send
refurbished tools to Africa.
Where possible we
combine this with a wider
programme of support
such as business and
marketing training. A gift of
£1200 pays for all of the
training associated with
one of our consignments.
- Birthday T-shirts

Help us to celebrate 25 years by wearing one of
our stylish birthday T-shirts. Each T-shirt sports a
discreet and distinctive TFSR anniversary logo.
