Our partners

Our biggest partner in Tanzania is the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO). SIDO supports small-scale industries and micro-businesses by providing training, technical assistance, access to credit and other help. We work with SIDO to improve the livelihoods of carpenters, tailors, blacksmiths, auto-mechanics, builders, shoe repairers, plumbers and many more.

Since Tools for Self Reliance helped us we have expanded our product range and we now export to neighbouring countries.

Tools for Self Reilance provides the tools and obtains funding to pay for the vocational and business training. The training is designed in collaboration with SIDO and delivered by experienced SIDO trainers. The content of the training varies from project to project but generally includes profit and loss, marketing, customer care and record keeping, and may also include top-up vocational training such as product quality and finishing. Tools for Self Reliance carries out independent monitoring and evaluation of all training.

SIDO and Tools for Self Reliance have been working together for over 30 years. We have projects in 14 of the 21 regions across the country – see map. The green pins show current projects. Red indicates projects for which we’re seeking funds.

Our group needed more sewing machines. I’d heard that SIDO could help us with that, but I didn’t realise that they could help with training too. The training and sewing machines we received have helped us to triple our sales.
