“Ubuyantashi” is a Bemba word meaning sustainability, development or moving forward. Our Vocational Training project with Zambia partner, Eliashib Restoration Organisation, is equipping 40 trainees with the skills to build business and working futures.
In their second month of training, Programme Manager, Evelyn Sichilima, told us “The last month has brought an incredible wave of progress, creativity, and hands-on learning to the Eliashib Centre. The energy was high, the classrooms were buzzing, and our learners truly came alive as they continued their journey toward self-reliance and empowerment!”
Tailoring trainees embraced learning new skills, from taking body measurements for garment construction, to finishing beautifully tailored skirts and children’s outfits. The trainees are growing in confidence daily and their creativity is shining through in every stitch. Evelyn told us that the trainees’ sense of achievement was inspiring to witness.
Our Agriculture trainees rolled up their sleeves for a month full of hands-on activities. They explored soil preparation, composting, and seedbed establishment. The biggest highlight was a visit to the Ubuyantanshi
farm plot in the heart of their community, where they will continue their training over the coming months.
Meanwhile, our Catering & Hospitality students learned key principles of kitchen hygiene, food safety and cooking techniques, practicing everything from “clean-as-you-go” habits to preparing hearty breakfasts and wholesome main meals.
We can’t wait to follow the progress of all our trainees as they work towards achieving nationally recognised trade certificates.
