Market Linkages for Rural Producers

Our Sustainable Project in Northern Ghana (SPRING) project with TRAX Ghana is supporting 50 female producers of Shea butter products, with the primary goal of empowering them to achieve economic independence and contribute to community development.

TRAX recently organized market linkages event to address the challenges that women in rural communities face in getting their products to market.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), key community leaders and the media to address market challenges through partnerships and value chain development.

A panel discussions was also held, where community leaders shared their stories, challenges, and successes, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among rural women. The Ghana FDA highlighted the significance of meeting regulatory requirements and the benefits of engaging with the department, while the GEA encouraged the women to register their businesses to access various support services.

The media, including national television, covered the event, helping to amplify the voices of these women and connect them with potential buyers and supporters.

Mr. Vincent Subbey, the Director of Trax Ghana, provided an overview of the organization’s work and the objectives of the SPRING Project, which goes beyond promoting Shea products to include cultivation of Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potatoes for wealth creation and improved wellbeing.

The event concluded on a high note, with commitments from the Queen Mother and Assembly Member to support the 50 beneficiaries. The women expressed their desire to start saving collectively, inspired by the platform that allowed them to ask questions and receive valuable responses.
