Kyarwakya United Carpentry Gives Back to the Community
Tools for Self Reliance sent Kyarwakya United Carpentry a small joinery kit in 2006, which has helped the group achieve their phenomenal growth of 500% since the group began.

Of the seven men and two women members, three have built commercial houses in their home trading centres and two have bought land. Most of the members are now able to meet their basic needs. Not content to reap the rewards of their labour for themselves however, the group has opened up a carpentry training centre for young people in the community and is passing on the skills of the trade to the next generation of carpenters.

The group’s services have meant a lot to the community because people can get everything they need locally, including the leftover sawdust which is reused on crops in the surrounding district.
