Goodwill Tailoring Group funds youth training schemes

Story from Africa

Uganda Rural Development and Training recently visited the Goodwill Tailoring Group, which received tools from Tools for Self Reliance in October 2002.

They found that the group had bought a plot and built a commercial property which serves as a working space and also as a source of income as it is partly rented out. One of the interviewed members, Musasizi Mark, has bought 5 hectares of land and built a semi-permanent house with 30 iron sheets. It is a sign of the group’s steady development and expansion that from the five original members in 1991, a total of 15 villagers have been trained and have gone on to start their own ventures in private workshops. Goodwill Tailoring currently provides 8 job training opportunities to young people in the village who receive approximately 3500 Ugandan shillings a day.
