Ugandan visitors show UK volunteers how it’s done!

Story from Africa

Victor Turyamureba and Everest Karabu of Uganda Rural Development Training (URDT) recently spent two months working alongside volunteers at the Netley Marsh workshops learning the art of tool refurbishment and sharing their experiences of working with artisans in Uganda.

During their stay, Victor and Everest also hosted a Ugandan evening, with informative and interesting presentations about some of the projects taking place in Uganda and some of the people who are benefiting immensely from the continued support of Tools for Self Reliance volunteers throughout the UK. On the same evening, there was also a showcase of sketches and watercolours made by Tools For Self Reliance supporter Susan Hartley when she visited Uganda in the summer.

The collaboration was a great success as Victor and Everest now intend to use their knowledge and skills to set up and run a new tool refurbishing and training centre in Kagadi town. Tools for Self Reliance hope that this experience could become a blueprint for future training efforts.
