Kagadi refurbishing centre a step closer

This is an archived news story, written on: December 14, 2006

The tool refurbishing centre at Uganda Rural Development Training’s headquarters in Kagadi came a step closer at the end of November as staff from URDT touched down at Kampala airport.

Arriving back home after completing a two-month long training course at TFSR’s Netley Marsh workshops in the UK, Victor Turyamureba and Everest Kabaru are now eager to pass on their new found refurbishing skills.

With additional funding now in place for premises and equipment it is hoped that the eagerly awaited tool refurbishing centre at Kagadi will soon become a reality. The training that Victor and Everest received will enable them to set up and manage the centre thus giving artisans much easier access to tools in western Uganda.

“We have discovered the steps involved in refurbishing tools … and have expanded our horizons.” Victor Turyamureba, URDT

There have been some other spin-offs for Tools for Self Reliance. According to Jon Dunkley, workshop manager at Netley Marsh, who helped put the training programme together:
“Victor and Everest’s training has led us to re-evaluate the skills and knowledge needed to run a refurbishing centre. Hopefully we can share this with our volunteer groups in the UK and apply it to future refurbishing workshop projects in Africa.”
