Girls Growth and Development
Tools for Self Reliance works with people like Stella Ntori who set up a small community based organisation that works with young girls and provides them with a wide range of activities and programmes.
The activities of Stella’s organisation, Girls Growth and Development (GIGDEV), play an important role locally in skills development and poverty alleviation.

When we first visited Stella in 2000 she was running a small sewing workshop for girls to learn sewing skills from the veranda of her home. When we returned in 2004 GIGDEV had grown into a thriving community organisation with its own building, offering young mothers, orphans and school drop-outs training in sewing, tie and dye, hair dressing, food preparation and office skills . Tools for Self Reliance has supported the workshop through the provision of over 30 sewing machines.
